Here are some driving tips to keep in mind when driving in Barbados:

Wear a Seatbelt

It is mandatory for all drivers and passengers in a vehicle to wear seat belts while driving your car rental in Barbados. Children under the age of five must also
be in a kid car seat.

Drive on the Left Side

Getting use to driving in a Barbados car on the left side of the road can be the most difficult adjustment. It can require intentional
consideration as you move about the island. Consider cautiously driving the rental car around the parking lot if you have never
driven on the left side of the road before.

Keep Your Hands Free

After you've rented a car in Barbados, note that it's illegal to text or talk on the phone while operating a vehicle unless you're doing it while using a hands-free option.
The easiest method to prevent accidents is to keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road, as distracted driving is one
of Barbados' top accident causes.

Watch Out for Pedestrians

People frequently walk in the streets in Barbados because there aren't many sidewalks there. Drivers must therefore watch out for pedestrians. Take it easy, especially in regions with a lot of traffic.

Observe speed limits

Speed limits are enforced in Barbados, and there are speed cameras on some roads. The speed limit on most major highways is
60km/h while in residential areas it is 40km/h.

Be cautious of roundabouts

Barbados has many roundabouts, and they can be challenging to navigate for drivers who are not used to them. Always give way to traffic already in the roundabout, signal your intentions and proceed with caution.

Use headlights at night

It is mandatory to use headlights when driving at night in Barbados.

Beware of narrow roads

Many roads in Barbados are narrow, and some may have potholes or other hazards. Drive cautiously and be prepared to yield to oncoming traffic if necessary.

Avoid driving under the influence

Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is strictly prohibited in Barbados, and there are severe penalties for those caught doing so.

Adhere to the traffic signs:

When you encounter a stop sign while driving, you must come to a complete stop at the stop line, crosswalk, or before entering the intersection
An 80km/h speed limit indicates that vehicles are allowed to travel at a maximum speed of 80km per hour on the highway
An 60km/h speed limit indicates that vehicles are allowed to travel at a maximum speed of 80km per hour on the highway
Give away rules that a motorist facing a give way sign must give way to traffic on the road they intend to join.
When the width of the road decreases and the road merges into a narrow road, there is a possibility that a speeding vehicle may get collided with oncoming traffic.
No U-turn signs are posted at intersections to indicate the driver is not legally allowed to make a U-turn ( a turn in the road to go the opposite direction.
This sign instructs drivers that it is not safe to overtake the vehicle in front and is often placed where there is poor visibility of the road ahead, or the road is too narrow to attempt an overtake.
This means you are prohibited even when the vehicle is occupied.
This symbol advises drivers that turning right at the intersection or junction is not permitted
ONE-WAY. Traffic moves only in the direction of the arrow.

"Do Not Enter” means you must not proceed in the direction of the sign. These signs are meant to prevent head-on collisions as they usually indicate opposing traffic that will be coming toward you.
